Tata Motors Becomes India’s First Automaker To Sell 3 Lakh Electric Cars
Tata Motors has officially crossed the 3 lakh cumulative EV sales mark. It has shared an animated video on its social media platforms announcing this milestone. The company currently has the largest market share of 38.9 percent in the electric vehicle segment. Tata reached this milestone in March 2026 and has highlighted that models such as the Nexon.ev, Punch.ev, Tiago.ev, Curvv.ev, and Harrier.ev have helped it in achieving this figure.
The company recorded total EV wholesales of 92,120 units during FY2026. This represented a 43 percent year-on-year growth. As mentioned, the company’s expanding product portfolio and charging ecosystem have helped it in achieving this growth. In addition to the 3 lakh units milestone, Tata Motors also achieved another milestone in May 2026.
It announced that, for the first time ever, the company had crossed the 10,000-unit monthly EV sales mark. Tata sold 10,517 electric vehicles during the month of May. It registered an impressive 85 percent year-on-year growth. Also, its retail registrations crossed 10,000 units and grew by over 100 percent compared to the same period last year.

Apart from these, Tata Motors has also stated that its electric vehicles are now contributing a major portion of Tata Motors’ overall passenger vehicle sales. In May 2026, EVs accounted for around 17.5 percent of the company’s total passenger vehicle sales volume. This is the highest EV penetration achieved by Tata Motors so far, it added.
As stated above, Tata Motors is currently working on the development of three new electric SUVs. All of these will be launched before the end of this year. Here are the details of these three EVs coming from Tata Motors.

The most highly anticipated upcoming electric car from Tata Motors is the electric version of the Sierra, the Sierra.ev, which will be launched on June 30, 2026. It will be based on the Acti.EV+ platform and will feature a unique front fascia with a closed-off grille, redesigned bumpers, and aero-optimized alloy wheels.
Like the standard ICE Sierra, the Sierra.ev will be offered with premium features. These will include the same triple-screen setup, panoramic sunroof, JBL audio system, HUD, ventilated seats, ADAS, and V2L functionality. Tata is expected to offer 55 kWh and 65 kWh battery pack options along with single-motor and dual-motor variants.

Following the launch of the Sierra.ev, Tata Motors is expected to launch the Safari.ev during the festive season this year. The Safari.ev will become Tata’s first electric three-row SUV, and it has been internally codenamed Tayrona. It will feature a redesigned EV-specific front fascia, aero-efficient wheels, and updated styling elements.
The SUV will be based on the Acti.EV+ platform, and it is expected to come offered with AWD, ADAS, connected car features, terrain modes, and a premium interior. Reports have also suggested that Tata could even offer a larger 80 kWh battery pack on the flagship variants.

Tata Motors will also be launching its new premium EV brand called Avinya later this year. The first model under this lineup will be the Avinya X. The SUV will feature a minimalist cabin design, premium materials, Level 2+ ADAS, a panoramic glass roof, powered and ventilated seats, HUD, massaging seats, and a host of luxury features.
The Avinya X is expected to use a new platform developed with inputs from JLR and will offer up to 500 km of driving range. Once launched, it will rival premium electric SUVs such as the BMW iX1 and BYD Sealion 7.
