Dishom Guru Shibu Soren will receive Padma Bhushan posthumously, Draupadi Murmu will be honored at Rashtrapati Bhavan on June 23.

Jharkhand: Dishom Guru Shibu Soren will be posthumously awarded Padma Bhushan in recognition of his historic contribution to the tribal society and Jharkhand. President Draupadi Murmu will confer this honor on her elder son and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren at the investiture ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on June 23. This is the third highest civilian honor of the country. This honor is a matter of pride not only for Shibu Soren’s family and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), but for the entire Jharkhand.

The announcement was made on Republic Day

Let us tell you that on the eve of Republic Day this year, the Central Government had announced to posthumously award Padma Bhushan to Shibu Soren. However, there has been a demand for giving him Bharat Ratna for a long time in Jharkhand. Jharkhand Assembly had also passed a resolution in this regard. Shibu Soren is counted among the biggest tribal leaders of the state.

Lifelong struggle for tribal society

Shibu Soren dedicated his entire life to the rights and development of the tribal society. He launched a big movement against the Mahajani system and fought continuously to save the tribals from exploitation. He also worked to spread awareness in the society through ‘Paddy Harvest Movement’ and drug de-addiction campaign. He was very popular among the people as ‘Guruji’.

Important role in education and Jharkhand movement

Between 1970 and 1975, Shibu Soren ran a night school to educate the tribal people. He believed that people should spend less on marriages and festivals and pay more attention to education. By establishing Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, he gave a new direction to the movement for a separate Jharkhand state and gave it the form of a mass movement.

Took big responsibilities in politics also

Shibu Soren was elected Lok Sabha MP from Dumka four times. He was also the Coal Minister in the Central Government and also led the state as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand. He died on August 4 last year at the age of 81 during treatment. Now being honored with Padma Bhushan is being considered as a big tribute given by the country to his long struggle, social service and his invaluable contribution in the development of Jharkhand.
