Bihar government Ladakh tour subsidy 2026 : If you are a resident of Bihar and you dream of visiting the beautiful palaces of Ladakh or visiting its religious places, then there is a very happy and great news for you. A historic decision has been taken to promote religious tourism to the state’s tourism sector and citizens in a recent important cabinet meeting chaired by Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary. Bihar Government has officially implemented ‘Sindhu Darshan Pilgrimage Financial Assistance Grant Scheme, 2026’ for the people of the state. Under this special scheme, pilgrims visiting the holy Indus River in Ladakh will be given a huge financial subsidy of up to Rs 20,000 directly by the Bihar government.
Often ordinary citizens or financially weak families cannot afford the huge cost of traveling to remote and mountainous areas like Ladakh. This important proposal, which has been given the green light by the Cabinet, was formulated by the Bihar Tourism Department to reduce this huge financial burden of travel and connect as many people of the state as possible with India’s rich cultural and historical heritage. The main objective of this scheme is not to generate commercial profit but to promote regional connectivity and religious tourism.

What is this Sindhu Darshan scheme and maths of financial aid?
Under this scheme of the Bihar government, after completing the pilgrimage to Ladakh, the travelers can get the benefit of this travel subsidy. Most importantly, this subsidy will be given in the form of ‘reimbursement’. This means that the government will not give any advance or advance payment for this journey. Pilgrims first have to complete this Ladakh Yatra at their own expense and then claim the subsidy from the government along with necessary documents.
As per government norms, financial assistance up to 50 per cent of the total official travel expenses incurred during the Yatra or a maximum of Rs 20,000 per person, whichever is less, will be directly credited to the beneficiary’s bank account. For example, if a person’s travel expenses are Rs 30,000, he will get Rs 15,000 at 50%; But if the expenditure is Rs 50,000, then Rs 20,000 will be reimbursed as subsidy subject to the maximum limit.
Eligibility, conditions and strict rules for the scheme
Not everyone will get the benefit of Indus Darshan Pilgrimage Grant Scheme. For this, the Bihar Tourism Department has laid down some strict conditions and regulations:
- Natives of Bihar: In order to avail this scheme, the applicant must be a permanent and native resident of the state of Bihar. Citizens of other states cannot avail this benefit.
- Age Requirement (18+): The applying pilgrim must be at least 18 years of age or above. Children below 18 years of age, minors or teenagers will not be considered eligible for this scheme.
- Opportunity for only 100 people every year: According to Google rankings and internal sources, the government has set a limit of only 100 eligible pilgrims in a year for this scheme. Hence, this annual subsidy will be given only to 100 passengers who initially apply and meet the criteria.
