LPG Rules Update: Will LPG connections be closed from June 30? What did Indane, HP and Bharat Gas say?
LPG Rules Update: There is an important news for millions of LPG consumers of the country. According to media reports, there is strong discussion about the possibility of some LPG connections being cut by June 30. However, big Indian Oil companies like Indane, HP Gas and Bharat Gas have made their stand clear and have advised consumers not to panic. Although the government has not given any such last date, but in the areas where PNG facility is available, the pressure to switch from LPG to PNG has definitely increased.
Ban on dual connection
In March 2026, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas issued a new order named ‘Natural Gas and Petroleum Products Distribution Order, 2026’. It has been said in the order that houses cannot have both LPG connection and PNG connection at the same time. The government banned dual connections and gave LPG consumers 90 days from March 2026 to switch to PNG if pipeline infrastructure is available in their area. This time is coming to an end now.
What happens if you don’t convert to PNG?
If there is PNG infrastructure in your area and you have received a notice from the registered post office or 90 days have passed but you have not yet taken PNG, then your LPG supply may be stopped. In the March order of the government, it has been clearly stated that those houses which do not take PNG despite having LPG, their LPG will be cut off. If you already have a PNG connection and are still using LPG cylinders, then this dual system has now stopped. You will have to return your LPG connection.
Will the supply stop now?
Currently domestic cylinders are supplied by Indane, Bharat Gas and HP Gas. The government has adopted a policy of promoting only PNG and banning dual connections. Before taking any major action, a separate official notification is usually issued.
What if PNG is not found?
If PNG supply has not reached your area then there will be no change in your LPG connection. Your LPG supply will continue. There will be no interruption in LPG supply until PNG supply reaches your area. No worries about booking a cylinder, no waiting for delivery, just uninterrupted gas supply.
One lakh families returned connections
Around one lakh families across the country have returned their LPG connections and transferred them to PNG. Since March 2026 alone, 10.02 lakh PNG connections have been activated and infrastructure has been created for 3.22 lakh more connections. With this the total number has increased to 13.24 lakh. About 9.94 lakh customers have registered for new connections.
