In Uttar Pradesh, everyone’s eyes are only on ‘Brahmins’, after all, on which side are they?
Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh may also be held before time. This will happen because the assembly dates do not clash with the census dates in UP. To avoid this, elections in UP can be held earlier also. In such a situation, all the small and big parties of the state are preparing for the elections in full swing. BJP and Samajwadi Party are seen at the forefront in this. However, parties like BSP, Congress and AIMIM are also working hard and moving ahead with their strategy. Even today, caste based politics is most prominent in UP. In this context, it is seen which is the voter caste of the ‘present government’ which is being accused of discrimination. When this happens, the opposition parties try to win over that caste to their side, so that the ruling party can be shocked.
At present, in view of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, all the parties are talking about ‘Brahmin’. All eyes are on this caste the most. In such a situation, questions are being raised that on which side is the Brahmin class? While giving a statement on Monday, BSP chief Mayawati tried to win over the Brahmins to her side and said that she has already started making leaders of this caste as candidates.

Mayawati is already firing arrows
Former UP Chief Minister Mayawati said that Bahujan Samaj Party has started making Brahmin community candidates in view of the preparations for the upcoming assembly in Uttar Pradesh. He said that ever since BSP started fielding Brahmins as candidates, Samajwadi Party and opposition parties have lost sleep. The former CM expressed confidence that just as in 2007 the BSP government was formed with full majority with the contribution of the Brahmin community, similarly this time also there is a possibility of the BSP coming to power again with the same support.
The matter of giving respect to Brahmins
He further said that everyone knows that in a heavily populated state like UP, the interest of Brahmin community is safe only in BSP. Mayawati said, ‘BSP’s principle of Sarvajan Hitaya-Sarvajan Sukhay has been implemented at the party level. Moreover, even after the formation of the government in 2007, it has proved this by giving full respect and honor to the Brahmins as well as giving them full participation at every level. Whereas in the governments of other parties, people of this class have been feeling neglected, insecure and cheated for a long time.
He announced that if BSP government is formed in 2027, Brahmins will be given full respect at every level like before.
BJP is also making claims
BJP is also not behind in making similar claims. BJP says that the Brahmin community stands strongly with it because the party has always given priority to Hindutva, Sanatan tradition and Brahmin respect. Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak and other leaders have already announced and given the message that BJP will protect the reputation of the Brahmin community. BJP also alleges that the opposition shows Brahmin love as soon as the elections come, whereas the real respect has been given to them by BJP itself.
Samajwadi Party’s enlightened conference
At the same time, Samajwadi Party chief and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has also given a message to the Brahmins that they have been discriminated against in the BJP government. He says that Samajwadi Party is a party which gives respect to all classes. The party has adopted the strategy of ‘Enlightened Class’ conferences for meetings of Brahmin leaders and raising issues related to Brahmin society. SP claims that Brahmins also have a respectable place in its PDA (Backward, Dalit, Minority) politics and BJP is only doing symbolic politics for them.
Congress blames BJP
On the other hand, Congress is also claiming that it does politics of giving equal representation to all the upper castes and backward classes including Brahmins. Congress is accusing BJP of using Brahmins only as a vote bank, while keeping their actual political participation limited.
After all, with whom is the Brahmin class?
In Uttar Pradesh, the Brahmin class was the first vote bank of the Congress. Later it became with BJP, but from time to time it has also supported Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party. It is believed that the Brahmin caste had a major contribution in forming the Mayawati government in 2007. But, the data of which party got Brahmin votes in the state assembly elections is known from studies like CSDS-Lotaniti’s poll survey.

Brahmin votes in 2017 assembly elections
If we look at the 10 year data of the assembly elections of 2017 and 2022, we find that the Brahmin class is deeply associated with the BJP. This class has maximum or rather complete loyalty to BJP. In the 2017 elections, about 82 percent Brahmin votes went to BJP. Apart from this, only 8 percent went to BSP and 7 percent went to SP-Congress alliance.
Brahmin votes in 2022 assembly elections
Similarly, where will the Brahmin votes be cast in the 2022 assembly elections? CSDS-Lotaniti had also given this data. According to this, compared to 2017, Brahmins supported BJP in a more robust manner in 2022. In this election, 89 percent Brahmin votes went to BJP. The support of any class to any party in such a huge amount only shows its loyalty. Apart from this, Samajwadi Party got only 7 percent Brahmin votes in the 2022 assembly elections. BSP got 2 percent Brahmin votes and others got only about 2 percent Brahmin votes.

Many major events happened before 2027
Before the upcoming elections of 2027 in UP, many incidents have happened regarding the Brahmin class, due to which the Brahmin MLAs of BJP themselves have shown displeasure. In fact, about 50 Brahmin MLAs have held a meeting in anger against BJP’s Yogi government. After this meeting, UP BJP President Pankaj Chaudhary has even given a clarification.
These MLAs have accused the Yogi government of discrimination against the Brahmin community. At the same time, SP’s National General Secretary Shivpal Yadav has already said that if the government is formed, the Brahmin community will be given due respect in the Samajwadi Party. Along with this, SP President Akhilesh Yadav has also accused the Yogi government of discriminating against this society.
