‘When food was not available, Sunder Singh Bhandari used to eat dry bread soaked in water’, Amit Shah narrated the story of struggle on his death anniversary.

New Delhi, June 22. The whole country is paying tribute to Jan Sangh’s founding member and strong nationalist thinker Sunder Singh Bhandari on his death anniversary. On this occasion, Union Home Minister Amit Shah remembered his days of struggle and said that his struggle to protect democracy during the Emergency and his determination not to compromise on principles even in adverse circumstances is an inspiration for all of us.

Home Minister Amit Shah wrote on the social media platform An inspiration for all of us.”

Amit Shah also shared a video, in which he said, “Sunder Singh Bhandari was the Governor of Gujarat. Naturally, Vidyarthi Parishad and Yuva Morcha workers used to come and go to him. I was one of them. Bhandari ji also has connections with Gujarat. One day he was sitting and I casually asked him, ‘What has happened to your leg? He laughed it off. When I asked him again, he said that this matter should not be told anywhere.’

Shah further said, “Today, that person is no longer in this world, but that sentence and his knowledge inspire all of us. He had told that when he was doing Sangh work in Rajasthan, there was very little acceptance for the work. Food was not available everywhere. When he used to come to the Sangh office, he used to dry the rotis like clothes. After wrapping the dried rotis in a cloth and putting them in a bag, he used to do Sangh work on a bicycle and roam from village to village.”

Amit Shah told that at that time the calves of his legs had become wide due to cycling. When food was not available, he would soak dry bread in water and eat it and then go ahead to do the work of the Sangh. With this type of ascetic life he took the Sangh forward. Even today, when I remember that sentence, I get goosebumps.”
