West Bengal BJP Government First Budget: DA of government employees in West Bengal increased by 20 percent, there is much more special in the first budget of BJP government
New Delhi. The Subhendu Adhikari-led BJP government in West Bengal has presented its first budget today. The government has taken special care of state employees, women, youth, policemen and journalists in the budget. The state government has announced a 20 percent increase in the dearness allowance (DA) of state government employees. The increased DA will be effective from October 1, 2026. Similarly, pensioners will also get additional dearness allowance. Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta, while announcing large-scale recruitment in government jobs in the budget, has informed about keeping posts reserved for women.

According to the state government, 1 lakh vacant posts will be filled in various government departments of the state and 30 percent of these posts will be reserved for women. Apart from this, the facility of free travel for women in government buses will be started. ‘Pink cards’ will be issued soon. Rs 550 crore has been allocated in the budget for this scheme. Apart from this, a lump sum amount of Rs 21,000 will be provided to pregnant and lactating women. The monthly honorarium of Asha workers has been increased by Rs 5,000. It has been announced in the budget to give pension of Rs 5000 every month to retired journalists. Also, special allowance will be given to those who were sent to jail under the TMC government after being implicated in false cases.

The monthly allowance for the elderly, widows and disabled has been increased by Rs 500. The remuneration of Civic Volunteers, Village Police, Green Police and Home Guards has been increased by Rs 2,000 per month. Apart from this, it has been announced in the budget to increase the salary of contract drivers to Rs 16,000. Unemployed graduates from families with annual income less than Rs 1 lakh will get an allowance of Rs 3,000 and others will get Rs 2,000 per month. Students will get free coaching facility in every district to prepare for competitive examinations.
