Central Government’s order: All Gram Panchayats will have to complete this work
New Delhi. To make development works more effective in rural areas of the country, the Central Government has issued new instructions regarding Gram Panchayats. The Ministry of Panchayati Raj has asked all the states and union territories that Gram Panchayats should prepare the Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) for the financial year 2026-27 on time and it will be mandatory to upload it on the e-Gram Swaraj portal by 15 August 2026.
Important guidelines sent to Panchayats
The Ministry of Panchayati Raj has sent a letter to senior officials of the states asking them to complete the process of Panchayat development schemes soon. The Ministry said that while preparing the Gram Panchayat Development Plan, it is important to keep in mind the local problems, needs of the villagers and future development priorities. In this, participation of Gram Sabha and local citizens is considered important.
Entry will have to be made on the portal by 15th August
This year, Panchayats have been given special time to prepare and upload the plan. The facility to upload GPDP on e-Gram Swaraj portal will be available from 19 June 2026 to 15 August 2026. The government has taken this step so that all the Panchayats can register their plans online within the stipulated time and monitoring of development works can become easier.
Special attention will be given to these areas
Under the Gram Panchayat Development Scheme, priority will be given to essential facilities in the villages. It covers several important areas:
Expansion of education facilities
conservation of natural resources
strengthening health services
Sanitation and hygiene related work
Increasing employment and livelihood opportunities
Providing benefits of social security schemes
Improving drinking water system in rural areas
Through these schemes, development needs will be identified and work will be done at the Panchayat level.
Digital system will increase transparency
With the availability of information about schemes on the e-Gram Swaraj portal, monitoring of development works will be better. This will make it easier to find out which works are proposed and how progress is being made on them. The Central Government believes that the online process will increase transparency in Panchayats and will help in faster implementation of village development works.
Plans will be made according to the needs of the villages
The main objective of GPDP is to ensure that only those development works which are most needed by the local people are taken up first in the villages. These plans to be prepared at the Panchayat level will play an important role in deciding the direction of rural development.
