Mumbai witnesses a spectacular monsoon arrival! Now it’s Gujarat’s turn, but will there be a pause? Why did the IMD sound an alarm? Monsoon’s explosive entry in Mumbai! Now Gujarat’s turn, but will there be a break again? Why did IMD scare? – ..
Monsoon has hit the country’s financial capital Mumbai and its surrounding areas in a very aggressive and explosive manner. Due to torrential rains in the last 24 hours, many low lying areas of Mayanagari have been flooded and its effect is also visible on the speed of local trains. Mumbaikars have got respite from the scorching heat, but at the same time the old problem of waterlogging has once again exposed the claims of the administration. According to the latest bulletin of the Meteorological Department (IMD), after drenching Mumbai, the monsoon winds are now rapidly moving towards the neighboring state of Gujarat. But meanwhile, a new warning from meteorologists has increased the concern whether after this explosive start, the pace of monsoon is going to be slowed down again.
Red alert of heavy rain in Mumbai and Konkan region
Clouds have camped in Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and the entire Konkan belt and intermittent heavy to very heavy rains are continuing. IMD has issued red and orange alert in several districts of coastal Maharashtra for the next 48 hours. Fishermen have been given strict instructions not to go into the sea as there is a possibility of high waves along with strong winds during this period. Local trains and road traffic, which are called the lifeline of Mumbai, are currently running at a snail’s pace. The Meteorological Department says that due to the strong westerly winds coming from the Arabian Sea, the monsoon is getting plenty of moisture, due to which this initial spell is proving to be so strong.
Pre-monsoon activity intensifies in Gujarat, official entry will take place on this day
After showing its strength in Maharashtra, now the next destination of monsoon is Gujarat. Rain with strong thunderstorms has started in many parts of South Gujarat including Ahmedabad, Surat, Valsad and Navsari as part of pre-monsoon activities. According to the weather centre, the monsoon will officially enter Gujarat within the next two to three days. Due to its effect, the weather pattern is going to change completely in the areas of Saurashtra and Kutch. In view of this monsoon, farmers have intensified preparations for sowing of Kharif crops, because timely rains prove to be very life-saving for the agricultural sector of this entire region.
But will there be a break again? Why did this forecast of IMD scare you?
Amidst this initial explosive entry, an internal estimate of the Meteorological Department has left environmentalists and farmers a little worried. IMD experts indicate that in the last days of June, the progress of monsoon may slow down a bit due to the partial effect of El Nino or some weak weather systems forming in the Pacific Ocean. If this happens, then the legs of the monsoon moving towards central and north India may stop for a few days, which is called ‘monsoon break’ in the weather language. However, meteorologists also say that this is a normal process and with the beginning of July, the monsoon will once again gain its full speed due to the new low pressure area forming in the Bay of Bengal.
