Government’s new warning, account may become empty due to ‘Boss Scam’
Desk. The government has issued a warning to people about new types of cyber fraud. The Home Ministry has warned about the new weapon of cyber criminals. These days, cyber criminals are targeting senior officials in government departments and committing fraud on them. People are being defrauded by sending fake links through WhatsApp messages or SMS.
I4C, the cyber security wing of the Home Ministry, has named it ‘Boss Scam’. In its advisory, I4C has warned people to stay away from fake e-mails, WhatsApp messages etc. Cyber criminals are committing fraud by sending e-mails and messages to RBI officials and CEOs of companies.
National Cybercrime Threat Analytics Unit (NCTAU) and Indian Cyber Crime Co-ordination Center (I4C) have detected this new type of ‘Boss Scam’, in which cyber criminals are targeting high rank officers and executives. It is quite worrying that they are sending fraud links containing malware through e-mails and WhatsApp messages etc.
If any data of high rank officials and CEOs is leaked then it can be a threat to national security. I4C has expressed concern because of this. The agency said that through malware, criminals can make large financial transfers using the Windows devices and active WhatsApp web sessions of executives.
