Putin’s big statement on peace talks with Ukraine, said – Russia is ready for talks but kept this condition

Russia-Ukraine Peace Talks: Amid the long-running war between Russia and Ukraine, the prospects for peace talks have once again gained momentum. Russian President Putin has indicated that Moscow is ready for talks with Kiev, but any talks should be based on past discussions and the current situation on the ground.

In a meeting held with government officials, Putin said that Russia is ready to advance the peace process. He stressed that negotiations should be conducted keeping in mind the agreements reached in Istanbul, the framework agreed upon in Anchorage and the current realities on the battlefield.

Ukraine accused of stopping talks

Putin claimed that the peace talks process was disrupted on the initiative of Ukraine, not Russia. According to him, Kiev is trying to strengthen its position before any possible new talks and under this strategy attacks are being carried out inside Russia. However, there has been no immediate official reaction from Ukraine on this allegation.

Three rounds of discussions in Istanbul

Last year, three rounds of peace talks were held in Istanbul between representatives of Russia and Ukraine. These meetings were held on 16 May, 2 June and 23 July. During these discussions, both countries exchanged a large number of prisoners of war and draft documents related to a possible peace agreement were also discussed.

Peace formula was revealed after Anchorage meeting

According to reports, later there was a meeting between the Presidents of Russia and America in Anchorage city of Alaska state of America. After this meeting, a peace proposal consisting of 28 points was prepared, which was later revised and limited to 20 points. However, it is said that Ukraine had flatly refused to give any kind of territorial concession.

Diplomatic efforts continued this year also

Several rounds of talks took place between Moscow and Kiev during 2026 under the mediation of America. The first and second rounds were held on 23–24 January and 4–5 February in Abu Dhabi, while the third round took place on 17–18 February in Geneva. This process later came to a halt due to increased tensions in West Asia, particularly the growing conflict between the US, Israel and Iran.

Draft agreement was made in 2022 also

There were also direct talks between the two countries during the initial months of the war and during 2022. At that time, a preliminary peace agreement was drafted in Istanbul, which was initially agreed to by both sides. However, this agreement did not take final form and the conflict continued.
