New Delhi. The petition of former West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC President Mamata Banerjee challenging her defeat on Bhawanipur Assembly seat was heard in the Calcutta High Court today. The court has directed the Election Commission to keep all CCTV footage and other related documents of EVMs, VVPAT and Bhawanipur Counting Center safe. The bench of Justice Gaurang Kant said that if necessary, we will get it investigated.

Mamta Banerjee has alleged rigging in vote counting. The next hearing of this case will now take place after two months. On behalf of Mamta, her lawyer and TMC leader Kalyan Banerjee presented arguments in the court. He told the court that everything was fine during the counting of votes till the 12th round. After that the election agent was beaten and thrown out. After this, everything changed in an unusual way with the 13th round of counting. Kalyan Banerjee requested the court that this case should be disposed of as soon as possible. He also alleged that despite objections, the returning officer of Bhawanipur was not changed.

Raising questions, Kalyan Banerjee said that the returning officer of Bhawanipur was also the election officer of Nandigram. Later Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari appointed him joint secretary in his office. Let us tell you that this time BJP candidate and current CM Shubhendu Adhikari had contested against Mamata Banerjee from Bhawanipur. In this election, Shubhendu defeated Mamta by more than 15 thousand votes. Mamta is not ready to accept her defeat and she is pointing fingers at the Election Commission for her defeat. However, in the last assembly elections also, Mamata was defeated by Shubhendu Adhikari from Nandigram seat.
