The politics of Tamil Nadu came to a boil when the level of allegations and counter-allegations on the floor of the Assembly reached personal life. The political war between Opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin and Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has now taken a very personal turn. Taking aim at Chief Minister Vijay, Udhayanidhi indirectly referred to the divorce petition filed by his wife Sangeeta Sornalingam in the Chengalpattu Family Court, leading to a huge uproar in the House.
‘Wife is looking for husband’: Chaos over Stalin’s comment
During his address in the Assembly, Udhayanidhi Stalin attacked Chief Minister Vijay by citing an old statement related to farmers. He said sarcastically, “Not only Tamil Nadu, the entire country knows the story of the wife searching for her husband in Chengalpattu court.” This statement of Stalin was a reference to the divorce petition filed in December 2025, in which Vijay’s wife has made a legal demand to end their 27-year-old marriage. The next hearing of this high-profile case has been fixed for August 7, on which everyone’s eyes are fixed.
Vijay’s counterattack: Accuses DMK of ‘looting’
In response to Udhayanidhi’s personal attack, Chief Minister Vijay made serious allegations of corruption against the DMK. Actor-turned-politician Vijay thundered in the Assembly that the main agenda of his government is to bring back the looted money of the public. He stressed that his party ‘TVK’ will not loot the exchequer like the previous DMK government. By adopting a tough stance against corruption, he put DMK in the dock.
Ruckus in the House, demand for ‘proof’
The opposition was enraged by Chief Minister Vijay’s sharp remarks. Udayanidhi Stalin immediately raised a ‘point of order’ and strongly opposed it. Stalin challenged and said that the Chief Minister should make serious allegations like corruption only when he has solid evidence. This tension between the two stalwarts in the House has now become the subject of a new debate in Tamil Nadu politics. At present, discussions are hot in the public and political circles on this high-profile personal and political confrontation.
