Chamari Atapattu’s historic century in Women’s T20 World Cup, made world record in successful run chase

Delhi: Sri Lankan captain Chamari Atapattu registered her name in golden letters in cricket history on Tuesday, i.e. 23rd June. She became the first player in the world to score a century in a successful run chase during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

Won against Ireland with a strong innings

In the Group B match played at the County Ground in Bristol, Sri Lanka had to chase the target of 131 runs set by Ireland. Captain Chamari Atapattu, starting the innings, displayed excellent batting and scored unbeaten 106 runs on 61 balls. His innings included 17 fours and 2 sixes. Thanks to his explosive batting, Sri Lanka achieved the target easily and registered a spectacular victory by 9 wickets.

Old record broken, new history made

Earlier, the record for the highest individual score during a successful run chase in the Women’s T20 World Cup was held by West Indies batsman Shamen Campbell. He played an unbeaten inning of 90 runs against New Zealand. This match was also played in Southampton during the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup. Now Chamari Atapattu has created a new history by leaving this record behind.
