Safety audit of 35 institutions on the orders of District Magistrate, hospital-coaching operation in basement completely banned, ‘Chanakya Academy’ sealed for negligence

Moradabad:- After the Lucknow fire incident, Moradabad administration is seen in full action mode. Under the leadership of District Magistrate Dr. Rajendra Pansia and Senior Superintendent of Police Satpal Antil, safety audit of about 40 big coaching centers and professional institutions of the district has been started. Five special teams formed under the leadership of Chief Fire Officer Dr. Rajeev Kumar Pandey have so far completed the investigation of 35 institutions. The administration has made it clear that there will be no compromise on the safety of the general public. Giving a direct message of this strictness, an institute has been immediately sealed after it was found that the standards were being grossly ignored. This intensive checking campaign will continue across the city for the next one week.

Any commercial activities in the basement of coaching centre, hospital are completely prohibited:-

The administration has taken the strictest stance regarding the activities going on in the basement. Officials have clarified that running hospitals, restaurants and coaching centers in basements can prove fatal for the general public. Therefore they will be closed 100%. Along with this, emphasis has been laid on the use of PNG instead of LPG to prevent accidents caused by gas cylinders. Strict instructions have also been given to the operators to immediately repair the old and hanging electrical wiring.

Coaching institute sealed for ignoring building code:-

During checking, the standards of ‘National Building Code 2016’ were not completely followed in a coaching institute running in the Ground Plus Two building. Proper fire safety arrangements were missing here and hydrants and hose reels were not found to be as per the standards. Due to this serious negligence the institute was locked. The administration has warned that now without any notice, MDA will take direct action against those who construct buildings completely packed with glass and contrary to the plans passed by MDA.

Instructions to 250 operators and campaign of five teams:-

DM and SSP held a two-hour long marathon meeting with about 250 coaching, hotel and lawn operators of the district and instructed them to fulfill 100 percent safety standards. 5 teams of administration are identifying 40 big institutions in the DIOS list along with 10-15 small centers running in narrow streets. In small institutions having one or two rooms where fire extinguishers have been found, the teams are giving proper training to the staff to operate them in case of emergency.

It is mandatory to post mock drill and emergency number:-

To strengthen security, it has been made mandatory to install active fire alarms, smoke detectors in all institutions and lightning conductors in multi-storey buildings. The numbers of fire brigade (101), police (112) and ambulance (108) should be clearly posted along with the entry-exit plan in every premises. Any automatic gate will not be considered as an emergency exit. Besides, the staff has been instructed to conduct ‘mock drill’ and download the ‘Sachet App’ which alerts before disaster.

During the meeting, Vice Chairman Moradabad Development Authority Mr. Anubhav Singh said that before constructing any building, do not ignore the rules of the Development Authority under any circumstances. This is absolutely wrong and the development authority is continuously taking action against such unauthorized construction.
