Mossad claims conspiracy to kill Asim Munir in Geneva, journalist Escobar’s statement creates stir

New Delhi: A claim by Brazilian journalist and geo-strategic expert Pepe Escobar has created a political stir from Pakistan to Iran. Escobar said that Israeli intelligence agency Mossad had conspired to assassinate Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir and his delegation. It is claimed that this operation was to be conducted during Iran peace talks in Geneva, Switzerland.

Pakistan was acting as a mediator between Iran and America

Pakistan is trying to play the role of mediator between America and Iran. The initial agreement between the two countries has been named ‘Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding’. Further talks on the Islamabad MoU took place in Geneva. Many senior officials including US Vice President JD Vance were involved.

Sensational claim made in podcast

The conspiracy to murder Asim Munir was claimed by Brazilian investigative journalist Pepe Escobar in Mario Navafal’s podcast. Mario is a political commentator and internet personality. Escobar said that Pakistani military intelligence had received very reliable information that Mossad was preparing to target Munir and other members of the Pakistani delegation during high-level talks in Geneva.

Israeli leaders had criticized the Iran-US peace deal. He said that he was not included in it. Israel’s military operation in Lebanon was also said to be in danger of breaking the agreement. Israel had said that it would not stop operations in Lebanon due to the threat of Hezbollah.

Pakistan’s strong reply: ‘Will erase from the map’

Escobar said, "The Pakistani Army had received concrete information that on the orders of Netanyahu, Mossad was plotting to murder Asim Munir and the rest of the delegation." He further said that after receiving the information, Pakistan sent a direct message to Israel through Oman. “If you touch our delegation, we will wipe you off the map,” the message said. Pakistan is the only Islamic country which has nuclear weapons. Israel is also considered a nuclear power.

Claim not confirmed, Pakistani journalists rejected it

Escobar’s claim has not been independently verified. Neither Pakistan nor Israel government has confirmed this. No evidence has emerged to support the claim. Asim Munir was part of the delegation led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that was trying to reduce tensions between Washington and Tehran. However, Pakistani journalists have described Escobar’s claim as a story devoid of facts.
