Kolkata: Three people died after the roof of an under-construction warehouse collapsed in Kolkata. The roof of a three-storey warehouse collapsed in West Kolkata’s Taratala area on Wednesday afternoon, trapping several people under the debris. According to Kolkata Police, 21 people have been evacuated so far. West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari called it a very unfortunate incident and said that rescue operations are underway.

The rescue work is still going on. It would not be right to reach any conclusion now. So far 21 people have been evacuated. Of these, three have died, 18 are alive and 9 are undergoing treatment at SSKM hospital.
He said that the plan for this project was passed on January 17, 2026. The owner of the land is SMPA and this land is on lease in the name of Shambhunath Behera and his partners. According to initial information, a wrong plan was earlier approved.

The Chief Minister said that the Assembly session is going on, so I will not say anything on compensation right now. I will speak on this subject tomorrow with the permission of the Assembly Speaker. Suvendu told that he will go to SSKM hospital to meet the injured.
