Printing date of birth on wedding cards will be mandatory in this state! Know what is its purpose
The Maharashtra government is considering implementing a new system to effectively ban child marriage in the state. According to the proposal, now it can be made mandatory to print the date of birth of the bride and groom on the wedding invitation letter i.e. marriage card. The government believes that with this step it will be easier to confirm the actual age of the bride and groom at the time of marriage and marriages of minors can be stopped in time.
This proposal is being considered important towards further strengthening the campaign against child marriage in the state.
Got inspiration from Rajasthan model
According to the Women and Child Development Department, the inspiration for this initiative has been taken from Rajasthan. There has been a reduction in the cases of child marriage after the implementation of the system of recording the date of birth in the marriage registers.
The Maharashtra government believes that if age related information is available on the marriage card itself, it will be easier for both the society and the administration to identify any suspicious marriage. Considering this experience, serious consideration is being given to implementing such a system in the state also.
issue raised in the assembly
This matter also became a topic of discussion in the Assembly. In response to a question asked by an MLA, the Women and Child Development Minister said that the government is studying this proposal and various aspects are being discussed.
He said that child marriage is not only a legal but also a social problem. In such a situation, there is a need to take effective steps at both administrative and social levels to stop this.
Child Rights Commission also gave recommendation
Maharashtra State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has also sent suggestions to the government in this regard. The Commission believes that mandatory publication of date of birth on the marriage card will make the process of age verification before marriage easier.
The Commission has also suggested that responsibilities of all the parties involved in organizing the marriage should be fixed, so that the rules can be ensured.
Will also be responsible for printing press and wedding venues
The proposed rule will not be limited to families only. Printing presses that print wedding cards, marriage halls, wedding offices and other institutions associated with the event will also have to ensure that they follow the rules.
If wrong information is given in a marriage or violation of age related rules is found, then action can be taken against the parties concerned. This is expected to make the process of stopping child marriage more effective.
How will we get help in stopping child marriage?
Experts believe that many times information about child marriage reaches the administration late. But if the date of birth is mentioned on the wedding card, then the local administration, social organizations and related departments will be able to get the necessary information in time.
This will make it easier to take immediate action to stop the marriage of minor boys and girls. Besides, awareness regarding legal marriage age will also increase in the society.
Final decision may be taken soon
The Maharashtra government is currently studying various legal and administrative aspects of this proposal. It is believed that a final decision on this can be taken in the coming time.
If this system is implemented, Maharashtra will join the list of states taking a new and innovative initiative to stop child marriage. The government hopes that this step will play an important role in protecting the rights of children and increasing awareness in the society.
