Fly found in food of Rajdhani Express, IRCTC imposes heavy fine of Rs 1 lakh

A fly was found in the food of a passenger traveling in Tejas Rajdhani Express from Ahmedabad, Gujarat to Mumbai. Angered by this, the passenger complained, after which IRCTC took immediate action and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the catering company. Also, a notice has been given to the company asking why their license should not be cancelled. This entire incident happened on Tuesday, June 24, 2026, where a passenger had ordered lunch for himself while traveling in the train. As soon as the traveler opened the food, he saw a fly in the food. The passengers were very upset by this and lodged a complaint regarding the poor quality of food.

As soon as the complaint was received, the catering manager and captain present in the train talked to the passenger. He apologized to the passenger and tried to give him another meal but the passenger flatly refused to take the food from that company. This food was prepared from the kitchen of a company named ‘Aaraha Hospitality Private Limited’ of Surat. Now action has been started by imposing fine on this company.

What warnings have been given?

IRCTC has given strict instructions to the company for the future. The company has been told to use only good and fresh ingredients. Containers containing pulses, rice, flour, spices and other items should be kept tightly closed and checked from time to time so that no insects fall into the food. It has now become necessary to take complete care of cleanliness while preparing and serving food.

kitchen inspection

The surprising thing is that the kitchen from where this food came was tested only on June 15. Apart from this, thorough cleaning was also done there on June 18. Despite this, finding flies in food is a great carelessness. Railways say that they provide food to lakhs of people every day, hence they take great care of cleanliness and in case of such mistakes, heavy fines and strict action are taken.
