Weather Update: Orange alert of heavy rain in 14 states, Delhi-NCR and UP people should be careful

New Delhi: At present, many different forms of weather are being seen simultaneously in India. On one hand, the south-west monsoon is advancing in a strong position and covering new areas, while on the other hand, some areas are still very hot.

‘Orange alert’ of storm in some parts

According to the India Meteorological Department, the northern limit of monsoon is currently passing through Dahanu, Wardha, Raipur, Daltonganj and Motihari. In the last 24 hours, it has completely covered Maharashtra and has entered Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. Today the Meteorological Department has issued ‘Orange Alert’ of heavy rain and storm in 14 states of the country.

There will be relief from storm and rain in Delhi-NCR

People living in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Western Uttar Pradesh are expected to get great relief from the heat today. Due to a cyclonic system over Rajasthan, there may be a dust storm in Western Rajasthan, which will have a direct impact on Delhi-NCR and surrounding areas. Today, strong winds can blow at a speed of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour in these areas. The storm will be accompanied by thunderstorms and moderate rain, which will bring down the temperature. However, the Meteorological Department has warned people not to go under trees or in open spaces during the storm.

Lightning threat in central and eastern India

Today the most dangerous weather warning has been issued for Central and Eastern India. There is a possibility of moderate to severe lightning in this area. The weather may be worst in Bihar, where heavy rains with winds speed of 70 km/hr are expected. Due to a low pressure area active over Madhya Pradesh, winds will blow at a speed of 60 km/hr in Western Madhya Pradesh. Whereas torrential rains will continue in Vidarbha and East Madhya Pradesh. There is also an alert of heavy rain in Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and Odisha.

Monsoon disaster in Mumbai and Northeast

The states of the western coast and South India are currently facing the brunt of monsoon. There is an alert of ‘heavy to very heavy’ rain in entire North Konkan and Goa including Mumbai, due to which there is a possibility of waterlogging in low-lying areas and traffic impact. Due to the raging monsoon in coastal Karnataka, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea. Due to stagnation of monsoon winds in the northeastern states, there are continuous torrential rains, due to which the risk of landslides in hilly areas and floods in Assam has increased.

Heat wave still prevalent in eastern Uttar Pradesh

Amidst rains and storms in large parts of the country, a completely opposite form of weather is being seen in eastern Uttar Pradesh. Monsoon has not yet affected this area, due to which the maximum temperature remains 3°C to 6°C above normal, and people are facing the scorching heat.
