The Wavy Whirl – Tropical Cyclone at Aquatopia Water Park differs from traditional water slides by using water currents rather than gravity alone to propel riders through the course.
Instead of a continuous downhill descent, visitors ride single- or multi-person rafts through changing currents that create varying speeds, sudden turns, and swirling movements.
According to the operator Sun World Hon Thom, the raft’s movement changes throughout the ride, producing a different experience on each run.

Unlike conventional high-speed slides, Wavy Whirl emphasizes unpredictable movement generated by the flow of water. Riders may rotate, change direction, or accelerate unexpectedly as they move through the attraction.
The ride can accommodate up to 1,440 guests per hour, with departures every 10 to 20 seconds, allowing it to serve large visitor volumes during peak travel periods.
The launch reflects a broader trend in the attractions industry toward more interactive and immersive water-based experiences. Attractions industry publication Blooloop has described PowerRapids as representing a new category of water rides.
Elsewhere on the island, Exotica Village has added several family-oriented attractions, including Crab Claw Dance, Dragon God Carousel, Storm Voyage, Ladybug Battle, Eagle’s Nest, and Rebellious Quail Eggs.

The new additions complement existing attractions such as Angry Wooden Snake and Eagle Eye, expanding entertainment options for visitors of different ages.
Hon Thom continues to develop as a full-day tourism destination, combining amusement facilities with leisure and beachfront experiences.
Visitors can reach the island via the cable car linking southern Phu Quoc with Hon Thom, recognized as the world’s longest three-wire cable car system.
Beyond the amusement areas, visitors can also spend time at Santo Beach Club, a beachfront venue featuring restaurants, bars, and two infinity pools overlooking the sea.

The introduction of new attractions comes as Phu Quoc continues expanding its tourism and entertainment infrastructure, with the aim of encouraging longer visitor stays and repeat travel to Vietnam’s largest island.
