Dollar strengthens against dong – Read International
The U.S. dollar rose against the Vietnamese dong Friday morning as it dipped against major peers.
Vietcombank sold the greenback at VND26,474, up 0.01% from Thursday. On the black market, the currency fell 0.08% to around VND26,497.
The State Bank of Vietnam hiked its reference rate by 0.01% to VND25,214.
Globally, the dollar fell 0.3% against a basket of currencies to 100.61 on Friday but was set to end the week little changed as investors awaited catalysts to gauge the path of U.S. interest rates, Reuters reported.
The euro rose 0.25% to $1.1459. Sterling was up 0.3% at $1.3451 and was set to rise more than 0.7% for the week.

The yen bounced on news that Japan plans to encourage pension funds to increase their holdings of domestic financial assets, a move analysts said could offer greater support to the battered currency than intervention. It was recently 0.6% higher at 161.44 per dollar.
The New Zealand dollar advanced 0.58% to $0.5789 and was headed for a weekly gain of more than 1.4%, after the Reserve Bank of New Zealand hiked rates this week and signaled further tightening ahead.
