Kyle Jamieson Ruled Out of Decisive Test Against England:
Read, Digital Desk : New Zealand fast bowler Kyle Jamieson will miss the third and decisive Test against England at Trent Bridge, with the team management opting to rest him as part of workload management. New Zealand captain Tom Latham confirmed the decision on Wednesday.
The towering pace bowler, who stands nearly seven feet tall, enjoyed an impressive run in the first two Tests at Lord’s and The Oval, claiming 10 wickets at an average of 24.20. The three-match series is currently level at 1-1, with the final Test scheduled to begin in Nottingham on Thursday.
Jamieson recently returned to international cricket after battling recurring back injuries over the past few years. He bowled a total of 65 overs across the first two Tests, the highest workload among bowlers from either side in the series. As a precautionary measure, New Zealand has decided to give him a break for the series finale.
Speaking to reporters at Trent Bridge, Latham said, “Kyle Jamieson will not be available for selection. The plan from the outset was for him to play two Test matches.”
He added, “He is fully fit and there is no injury concern. Considering the difficult period he has gone through over the past two or three years, being able to play two Test matches is a significant achievement for both him and the team.”
Fast bowler Blair Tickner is expected to come into the playing XI as Jamieson’s replacement. The New Zealand management is also considering the inclusion of left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner, who has regained fitness. With warm and dry conditions forecast in Nottingham, an additional spin option could prove valuable.
A heat warning has been issued for the opening two days of the Trent Bridge Test, but Latham dismissed concerns over the weather conditions.
“I do not see it as a concern. As international cricketers, we are accustomed to playing in hot and humid conditions around the world,” he said.
Latham also stressed the importance of maintaining proper hydration throughout the match, saying, “It is extremely important to keep the body adequately hydrated in order to perform consistently over five days.”
New Zealand will now attempt to secure a series victory against England in the decisive encounter without the services of Jamieson.
