Big relief for Windows 10 users, Microsoft extended the time of security updates
New Delhi: If you are still using Windows 10 and have not been able to upgrade to Windows 11, then there is relief news for you. Giving a big gift to millions of its users, Microsoft has extended the duration of Windows 10’s Extended Security Updates (ESU) program. This decision will especially benefit those people whose computers do not meet the hardware requirements of Windows 11. Now such users will be able to keep their systems secure for a longer time than before.
Microsoft has stated in its official support information that the Windows 10 Consumer Extended Security Updates (ESU) program will now continue till October 12, 2027. Earlier this facility was to be available only till October 2026. This change means that users in the ESU program will continue to receive critical security updates and security patches for an additional year. This will give people using Windows 10 more time to keep their systems secure.
Already connected users will not have to do any new work.
New Delhi: The company has clarified that those who have already registered themselves in the ESU program will not need to apply again or go through any additional process. Their subscription will be automatically extended to the new end date and they will continue to receive regular security updates as before.
New users can also enroll
Microsoft has also said that those who have not yet taken the ESU program can also join it anytime before the last date. However, the company advises that the longer a system does not participate in the ESU program, the more vulnerable it will be to viruses, malware, and other cyber attacks. Therefore, it would be better to register on time.
Who will get the most benefit?
This decision especially brings relief to those users whose old computers do not meet the minimum hardware requirements of Windows 11. Such users have now got almost an extra year of time to buy a new computer or upgrade to Windows 11. During this period, their system will also remain secure through necessary security updates.
What is required to join the ESU program?
To avail the benefits of the ESU program, the user will have to sign in with his Microsoft account. This feature is available on Home, Professional, Pro Education and Workstation editions of Windows 10 Version 22H2. Apart from this, it is also necessary to have the latest update of Windows 10 installed in the device. Only then will users be able to take full advantage of this facility.
According to Microsoft, a maximum of 10 devices can be covered under an ESU license. This means that multiple systems can benefit from security updates from a single license.
