Video: Big negligence in national athletics! A missing hurdle broke a player’s Asian Games dream

Bhubaneswar: An incident has come to light in the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championship held in Bhubaneswar, which has raised serious questions on sports administration. Young hurdler Harshita from Tamil Nadu had to bear the brunt of a big mistake by the officials, due to which her dream of Asian Games qualification was shattered.

In the heat of the women’s 400 meter hurdles event, Harshita performed brilliantly and achieved her best time of 1:01.03 seconds and qualified for the final. But a shocking mistake came to light during the race. Only 9 hurdles were installed in Harshita’s lane instead of 10.

During the race, when Harshita noticed that a hurdle was missing in her lane, she immediately crossed the hurdle of the nearby lane and completed the race. Later investigation proved the officials to be at fault, but despite this, Harshita’s appointment was cancelled.

After this the officials instructed Harshita to run the time trial alone the next day. Due to running for the second consecutive time and not getting a competitive environment, she could only manage a time of 1:02.54 seconds, which was slightly more than the time set for qualification. As a result, she could not make it to the finals.

After the incident, Harshita said that instead of accepting the mistake, the officials raised questions on her. This whole matter has once again sparked a debate as to why the hard work and dreams of the players have to be paid for due to administrative negligence. A missing hurdle not only changed the outcome of a race, but also derailed a young athlete’s big dreams.
