The new government of the state has given the green signal to a very unique scheme – ‘Thaimaman Thanga Mothira Thittam’. Under this scheme, every child born in a government hospital from June 22, 2026 will be given a 1 gram gold ring as a gift. This is no less than a boon for poor families. Chief Minister Thalapathy Vijay signed the documents of the initiative, for which ₹755.83 crore will be allocated per year. Why is the government distributing gold rings?

The TVK-led government in Tamil Nadu will gift a gold ring to every child born in government hospitals in the state. As per the culture and tradition of the state, in the joy of blessing the family and welcoming the new born, Thaimaman Seer i.e. Mara has announced to give 1 gram gold rings as a gift. Its estimated price will be Rs 13,600 per unit.

Will Thalapathy Vijay play the role of uncle?

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thalapathy Vijay has signed and implemented the official documents of ‘Thai Maman Gold Ring Scheme’ in which it is written that the government will fulfill the responsibility of maternal uncle for all the children born in its medical institutions and will gift a one gram gold ring as a blessing.

What documents will be required and where to apply?

Tamil Nadu government’s Chief Minister Thalapathy Vijay has implemented ‘Thai Maman Gold Ring Scheme’ from June 22 but it will be officially launched on September 15, on the occasion of the birthday of former Chief Minister CN Annadurai. The government said in its order that gold has great emotional importance in the culture and tradition of Tamil Nadu. In such a situation, this step has been taken to celebrate the arrival of the newborn child into the world and to honor the mothers. This scheme makes public health service a matter of pride. The government also said that the gold rings will be purchased through Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation (TNMSC).

Documents: Ration Card, Voter ID Card, Aadhar Card, Labor Welfare Board ID Card, Certificate from Postal Department and Domicile Certificate.

Eligibility: Must be a permanent resident of Tamil Nadu, the child is born in a government hospital, the mother is registered with RCH ID in PICME. Applications will be taken from the mother of the newborn.

Special thing: Under ‘Thai Maman Gold Ring Scheme’, if a mother gives birth to twins in a government hospital, then she will get 2 gold rings as a gift.

Statistics of Tamil Nadu regarding delivery

The latest figures of deliveries in the state have also been published in the documents of ‘Thymaman Thanga Mothira Thittam’ scheme, in which it is written that according to the survey of National Family Health Survey (NFHF-6), about 7.8 lakh deliveries take place every year in Tamil Nadu, out of which 99.9% deliveries take place in organizational hospitals. Out of this, 4.2 lakh i.e. 53% deliveries take place in government health centres. The cost of each delivery in a government hospital is only Rs 1,364, whereas the average cost of delivery in a private hospital is Rs 63,473.
