Venezuela Earthquake Update – USGS Warns Death Toll Could Reach Up to 100,000, State of Emergency Declared

Venezuela Earthquake Updates:- Two back-to-back earthquakes in Venezuela have wreaked havoc in the country. A strong earthquake struck the country’s northern coast on Wednesday, causing several buildings to collapse in the capital, Caracas. The first quake measured 7.2 on the Richter scale, and the second measured 7.5 on the Richter scale. Two major earthquakes were reportedly felt within seconds. People came out of their homes and took to the streets in fear as the shocks of the terrible earthquake were felt.

Venezuelan Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello has urged people to evacuate their homes to ensure their safety. A state of emergency has been declared in the country following the earthquake.

According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the initial magnitude of the quake was measured at 7.5. US tsunami warning centers said there was no threat of a tsunami, rescinding initial warnings of dangerous waves for areas such as Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

More than 10 thousand deaths feared

Two earthquakes have wreaked havoc in the country. The death toll from the quake could be as high as 10,000, according to estimates from the US Geological Survey (USGS). “Heavy loss of life and property is expected due to the disaster,” the USGS said. He has initial estimates that the death toll could be between 10,000 and 100,000.

Declaration of Emergency

Acting Venezuelan President Delcy Rodriguez has declared a state of emergency after the earthquakes. According to CNN’s report, Rodriguez has confirmed the deaths in the aftermath of the quake, but has not yet said how many people have died. He also announced the creation of a force to oversee search-and-rescue operations.

Venezuela’s capital is devastated following an earthquake. Videos now circulating on social media show frightened people and collapsed buildings following a series of massive earthquakes along Venezuela’s northern coast. There is panic among the people after this earthquake.

US Secretary of Energy Expresses Condolences to Venezuela

US Energy Secretary Chris Wright has also joined the foreign officials who have shown solidarity with Venezuela. “We extend our deepest condolences to the families who have lost loved ones. Wishing courage and a speedy recovery to all communities affected during this difficult time,” he said in a social media post.
