Bodies of 8 more Indian victims of Qatar gas plant accident reach home, 12 bodies brought so far

Doha/New Delhi. The bodies of eight more Indian citizens who lost their lives in the horrific accident that took place in Qatar’s Ras Laffan Industrial City have been sent back to their homeland (India). With this, the total number of dead bodies sent to India so far has reached 12. The Indian Embassy in Doha has officially shared this information. Just a day before this, on Thursday, bodies of four other Indians were repatriated.

“The bodies of eight Indian nationals who unfortunately died in the Ras Laffan accident were sent to India on June 26 (Friday). Out of the total 12 bodies, four were sent on June 25 (Thursday),” the Indian Embassy said in a post on social media platform ‘X’ (earlier Twitter) on Friday night.

There was an explosion in Barzan local gas supply center.

This tragic accident took place at the Barzan Local Gas Supply Center located in Ras Laffan Industrial City, operated by ‘QatarEnergy LNG’. A total of 13 people, including 12 Indian citizens, were killed in this massive explosion, which also included a Pakistani citizen. Furthermore, a total of 66 people including citizens of Qatar, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal have been injured in the accident.

Indian Embassy expressed gratitude

The Indian Embassy has expressed its gratitude to the Qatari authorities, Indian community organizations and various government agencies of India for their assistance in repatriating the bodies safely and expeditiously. The embassy has promised to provide all possible support to the victims and bereaved families.

Ambassador Vipul met the injured

India’s Ambassador to Qatar Vipul and other senior officials of the embassy visited Al Khor area on Friday. There he met the Indian citizens injured in the accident who are currently undergoing treatment in the hospital. Expressing satisfaction over the condition of the injured, the embassy said that all the injured have been provided proper medical aid. For this, the Embassy has thanked the Qatari administration and the representatives of the concerned employer company.
