Women’s T20 World Cup: Brit’s first T20 century helps South Africa beat Netherlands by 88 runs
Bristol. Thanks to Tazmin Britt’s brilliant first T20 International century and the excellent performance of the bowlers, South Africa defeated the Netherlands by 88 runs in the Group A match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 on Friday Indian time. With this victory, South Africa strengthened its hopes of reaching the semi-finals and secured six points from four matches and reached equal to India in the points table. However, due to better net run rate, India still remains in second place.
After winning the toss and batting first, South Africa scored a huge score of 208 runs for one wicket in the stipulated 20 overs. Opener Tazmin Britts played an explosive inning of 114 not out, while captain Laura Wolvaardt scored 45 and Anne Dirksen scored 37 runs in just 16 balls to put the team in a strong position. Britt and Wolvaardt made a partnership of 121 runs for the first wicket.
Chasing the target of 209 runs, Netherlands made a fast start and scored 50 runs without losing any wicket in the powerplay. Phoebe Molkenboer scored 41 and Sanya Khurana scored 36 runs, but after that the entire team faltered.
In front of South Africa’s bowling, Netherlands’ innings was limited to 120 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs. Ayabonga Khaka took three wickets, while Chloe Tryan dismissed two batsmen.
After this victory, the fight for the second semi-finalist from Group A has become even more exciting. England have already made it to the last four. South Africa will face Bangladesh in their final league match on June 28, while India will face a strong Australian team on the same day, which will decide the semi-final picture.
