India’s spectacular victory in the Women’s T20 World Cup, defeating Bangladesh by 5 wickets and maintaining a strong claim in the race for the last four.
New Delhi. In the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, the Indian women’s cricket team performed brilliantly and kept its semi-final hopes alive by defeating Bangladesh by five wickets. Team India achieved the target of 137 runs by losing five wickets in 16.5 overs and registered its third win in the tournament. With this win, India strengthened its position in the points table, but to make it to the last four, it will now have to perform better against Australia in its last league match.
Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bat first, but the Indian bowlers kept the pressure on them from the beginning. Although the fielding of the Indian team was not as expected and many easy catches were missed in the initial overs, but the bowlers did not give the opposition batsmen a chance to build a big partnership by taking wickets at regular intervals. In the stipulated 20 overs, Bangladesh team could score only 136 runs at the loss of six wickets.
Indian bowling was led by Radha Yadav. He completely shook Bangladesh’s middle order by taking three important wickets. Young spinner Shri Charani also bowled brilliantly and took two wickets and continued his impressive performance in the tournament. Fast bowlers Renuka Singh Thakur and Nandini Sharma also contributed significantly to the team’s victory by taking one wicket each.
Chasing the target of 137 runs, the Indian team got an initial blow in the form of Smriti Mandhana, but Shefali Verma changed the course of the match by batting aggressively. After getting a lease of life in the very first over, he continuously attacked the Bangladeshi bowlers and scored a brilliant half-century of 53 runs in just 34 balls. His fast batting put the Indian team in a strong position.
After Shefali’s dismissal, Yastika Bhatia played a useful inning of 23 runs, while Jemimah Rodrigues made the target easy by scoring 26 runs in just 14 balls. Richa Ghosh also contributed 10 runs at a crucial time. The middle order maintained a balance of composure and aggression and gave India victory with 19 balls to spare.
Shefali Verma was adjudged Player of the Match for her explosive half-century. Their aggressive start in batting and brilliant performances by Radha Yadav and Shri Charani in bowling laid the foundation of India’s victory. This victory is also considered very important for the confidence of the team, because the pressure on the team had increased after the defeat against South Africa in the last match.

Now the Indian team will be eyeing its last and most important league match, where it will face Australia. Victory in this match can almost pave the way for India to reach the semi-finals. If the team does not win this match then it may have to depend on the results of other teams. In such a situation, this victory over Bangladesh not only gives new energy to India’s campaign but also gives confidence for the upcoming decisive match.
