Orange alert of Meteorological Department in 9 states, threat of severe heatwave continues in UP for next 48 hours

Lucknow: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rain in Northeast India, West Bengal and Sikkim this week. According to the department, there may be excessive rainfall at many places in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim between June 27 and 29. There is a possibility of heavy rain in some areas of Assam and Meghalaya on June 28.

On the other hand, extreme heat and heatwave conditions prevail in Uttar Pradesh, which is expected to continue for the next two days. Monsoon is currently slowing down, with its northern limit passing through Surat, Indore, Mandla, Daltonganj and Motihari. However, in the coming 3 to 4 days, conditions may become favorable for it to cover most parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar and reach Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Heavy rainfall has been recorded over parts of West Bengal and West Madhya Pradesh in the last 24 hours. Whereas, normal rains have been seen in East Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The Meteorological Department has predicted that there will be no major change in temperature in most parts of the country for the next three to four days. After this, there may be a drop of 4 to 6 degrees in North-West India, 2 to 3 degrees in Central India and 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in Eastern India between July 1 to 3.

A red alert has been issued in view of excessive rainfall in West Bengal and Sikkim, where there is a possibility of more than 21 cm of rainfall. Orange warning has been issued in Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha and East Madhya Pradesh. There is also a possibility of lightning falling in these areas, especially in Bihar, Odisha and Jharkhand.

Yellow alert continues regarding heatwave in Haryana and Western Uttar Pradesh. Apart from this, warning of heavy rain has been issued in West Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Coastal Karnataka.

The impact of the heat was felt more in Delhi on Saturday, where the heat index reached 48.4 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature at Safdarjung center was recorded at 41.3 degrees and the minimum temperature was 30.8 degrees Celsius, which is above normal. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Tuesday and Wednesday and has predicted rain with thunder and strong winds.
