Young man standing in line did not get Jalebi first, shot and killed shopkeeper, court sentenced him after 12 years

New Delhi. In Delhi, a court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for shooting a sweets seller after being angry over him not giving ‘Jalebi’ before other people in the queue. This incident happened 12 years ago. At a sweet shop near Bangla Sahib Gurdwara, on February 18, 2014, when the vendor refused to break the order, the accused slapped him, took out his pistol and shot him in the head at close range.

Additional Sessions Judge Dhirendra Rana was hearing the arguments in the case of sentencing Neeraj. Neeraj was convicted earlier this month under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 302 (murder) and the Arms Act for unlawful use of weapons.

The judge, in his June 8 order, said, perusal of the records shows that the convict had a fight with the vendor because he wanted to be served jalebi before other customers standing in the queue. When the vendor refused to do so, the convict slapped him, took out a pistol and shot him in the head from very close range. He told that the seller was taken to the hospital where he died, Neeraj was caught near the spot and a fake arms license was also recovered from him.

The judge said, I have considered the mitigating circumstances of this case. The convict is not involved in any other case. He remained in custody throughout the hearing. He is not a threat to society and is likely to improve.

Therefore, this case does not fall in the category of ‘rarest of rare’ cases, he said. The convict has been facing trial since 2014 and is survived by his wife and two sons. After this he sentenced the convict to life imprisonment for murder.
