US Ambassador warns Iran at UN, says operations will continue to protect Strait of Hormuz
The United States Ambassador to the United Nations on Sunday issued a strong warning to Iransaying Tehran must choose between acting as a responsible state or continuing on what the envoy described as “a path that leads it toward ruin.”
Speaking at the United Nations, the US envoy said Washington would continue to respond to threats against international shipping and American military installations, warning that the administration of President Donald Trump would not remain passive if Iran targeted maritime routes or US bases in the region.
“Either Iran chooses to be a responsible state or it continues down a path that leads it toward ruin,” the ambassador said.
The envoy also warned that Iran would be mistaken if it believed the United States would tolerate attacks on commercial shipping or American military facilities.
“Iran is mistaken if it thinks Trump will stand idly by while it attacks shipping and our bases,” the ambassador said during the remarks.
Addressing security in the Strait of Hormuzone of the world’s most strategically important maritime routes, the US representative stated that American military operations would continue whenever necessary to eliminate infrastructure allegedly used by Iran to control the waterway.
“Our operations will continue as needed to destroy infrastructure used by Iran to control Hormuz,” the ambassador said.
The remarks come amid heightened tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy corridor through which a significant share of the world’s crude oil and liquefied natural gas exports passes. The waterway remains a focal point of international attention due to ongoing security concerns and its importance to global trade.
The latest comments underscore Washington’s position on protecting freedom of navigation and maintaining the security of international shipping lanes in the Gulf region. US officials have repeatedly stated that safeguarding maritime commerce remains a strategic priority.
No additional military measures or operational details were announced during the ambassador’s remarks. Iranian authorities did not immediately respond to the statements.
The developments come as diplomatic and security discussions continue over stability in the Gulf region, with the Strait of Hormuz remaining central to international efforts aimed at ensuring uninterrupted maritime trade and regional security.
