New SUV: MG’s new SUV will launch on July 16, know the price, design and features
Hint of ‘New Energy Vehicles’ found in teaser
MG has released a teaser ahead of the launch, which reads, “Internet Inside changed India’s driving experience, now is the time for a new era of New Energy Vehicles.” The message is reminiscent of MG Hector, which popularized connected car technology in India. This time the company’s focus is on electric and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicles, which clearly shows that MG is preparing to expand its new energy vehicle portfolio in India.
New SUV may be bigger than Hector
The length of Wuling Starlight 560 available in the global market is 4,745mm and wheelbase is 2,810mm. In terms of size, it can be bigger than MG Hector. In the international market, this SUV is available in both 5-seater and 7-seater configurations. Its design elements like large front grille, LED headlights, wide wheel arches, connected LED taillights and roof spoiler give it a premium and powerful look.
You will get a cabin with premium features
The global model has a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster. Apart from this, automatic climate control, connected car technology and many advanced comfort features are also provided. It is expected that the company can include some additional features in the Indian model also.
Both electric and plug-in hybrid options
This SUV is available with two powertrain options in the international market.
Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV): It gets a combination of 1.5-litre petrol engine and battery pack, which gives power of 197bhp and torque of 230Nm. The company claims that this model can run for about 100 kilometers only in electric mode.
Full Electric (EV): It has a 56.7kWh battery pack and electric motor, which produces 136hp power and 200Nm torque. Its estimated range on a single charge is said to be around 500 kilometers.
However, MG has not yet clarified which powertrain will be launched first in India. But considering the emphasis given on ‘New Energy Vehicles’ in the teaser, the possibility of launch of plug-in hybrid model is considered more.
Will compete with these SUVs
In the Indian market, this new SUV of MG can compete with popular SUVs like Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari, Toyota Innova Hycross, Hyundai Alcazar and MG Hector Plus. The company may share more information related to its price, features and powertrain in the coming days.
