Double natural disaster in America: Massive wildfire in Utah, four dead due to floods in Kentucky; Emergency in many areas

Washington/Frankfurt. America is currently facing the double blow of severe natural disasters. On one hand, forest fire is becoming increasingly severe in the state of Utah, while on the other hand, torrential rains and floods in Kentucky have disrupted life. There is an emergency situation in both the states and the administration is engaged in relief and rescue operations.

The nation’s largest active wildfire in Utah

The Cottonwood wildfire in Utah has now become the largest active wildfire in America. The fire has so far engulfed an area of about 373 square kilometres. Due to this, there has been huge damage to hilly areas, dense forests and ski resorts.

The administration has closed many campgrounds and public places as a precautionary measure. Also, people living nearby have been advised to be ready to go to safe places at any time.

Governor declared emergency

Considering the seriousness of the situation, Utah Governor Spencer Cox has declared an emergency in the state. He said that the fire is continuously causing damage to residential and forest areas. The Governor wished for the safety of the fire fighters and also expressed hope that it would rain soon.

Hundreds of firefighters, helicopters and air tankers have been deployed to control the fire. However, strong winds, low humidity and extremely hot weather continue to challenge firefighting efforts.

  • Weather became a major reason for the spread of fire

According to the weather service, Utah received record low snowfall this year and the winter weather was warmer than normal. Due to this, dryness increased in the forests, which created conditions for the fire to spread rapidly.

The state government has also banned fireworks in view of the increasing danger of fire. Officials say that most of the forest fires this year have occurred due to human negligence, while some incidents have also occurred due to lightning.

Danger increased in other areas also

Two other wildfires, Iron and Cherry, are also spreading rapidly in other parts of Utah. Due to these, many small towns have been evacuated and many major highways have had to be closed.

‘Red Flag Warning’ has been issued in many states of Western America due to strong winds and very low humidity. As a precautionary measure, power supply has also been temporarily stopped in some areas to prevent possible accidents.

    Flood devastation in Kentucky

On the other hand, floods caused by continuous heavy rains in the state of Kentucky have caused widespread devastation. So far, four people have been confirmed dead due to the flood. Waterlogging continues in many areas and relief and rescue teams are busy taking the affected people to safe places. The administration has appealed to the people to avoid unnecessary travel and follow the instructions of the Meteorological Department.
