Amidst Sonam Wangchuk’s fast, Abhijeet Deepke expanded the scope of the movement, now electoral system reform will also be discussed

Social activist from Ladakh and supporter of education reforms, Sonam Wangchuk, started a hunger strike at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Sunday. He expressed his support by joining the demonstration of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in the examinations. During the demonstration, CJP founder Abhijit Deepke said that this movement will not be limited only to the education system and NEET controversy. He announced that now issues like electoral system reform, transparency and accountability will also be included in the movement.

According to Abhijit Deepke, the objective of the movement is not limited to just demanding reforms in the examination system, but also to raise voice for comprehensive institutional reforms. He said that along with the education system, improving the electoral process and ensuring accountability will also be a part of this campaign.

Movement will not be limited to NEET only

Abhijeet Deepke has said that his movement will not be limited only to the education system and NEET controversy. He clarified that in the coming time, issues like electoral system reform, transparency and accountability will also be included in the movement. Abhijit Deepke said that many people are considering this movement only as an issue related to NEET and education, but this is only the beginning. He said the organization will also take up further election-related issues, including issues like SIR (Special Intensive Revision) of voter lists. He said that through this movement, various questions related to education and election system will be discussed and other concerns of the people will also be brought to the fore. The organization claims that the campaign aims to push forward the demand for systemic reforms and ensuring accountability.

Will also go to the electoral system

Abhijeet Deepke has said that whether the organization contests the elections or not, it will continue to work to improve the electoral system. Raising questions about the current electoral process, he said that if concerns like deletion of votes persist then there will be no need for EVMs. Abhijit Deepke said that the objective of the movement is not just to participate in elections, but to work for accountability and transparency in the electoral system. He said that the organization will also raise issues related to the democratic system prominently.

Meanwhile, Sonam Wangchuk said that education is an issue close to her heart and peaceful protests are necessary to improve the system. Before starting the hunger strike, Sonam Wangchuk along with Abhijeet Deepke reached Rajghat and paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. Sonam Wangchuk said, “Education and environment are my issues. Justice is my destination.” He stressed the need to reform the system through peaceful movement.

I am with CJP- Sonam Wangchuk

Sonam Wangchuk answered questions related to her movement during the hunger strike at Jantar Mantar. He said that many people are asking him why after agitating in Ladakh, he is now standing with the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). Wangchuk said the issue of education has been extremely important to him for the last 40 years. He said that since he was a student himself, he has been thinking of working towards improving the education system. According to him, the aim of education should not be limited to studies only, but should be to shape the lives of children and give the right direction to the nation.

He said that if the government had shown sensitivity in time, people would not have needed to hold such protests nor would they have had to sit on dharna in such scorching heat. Sonam Wangchuk said that when there is a lack of accountability in the system, peaceful protests are the only way for people to express their views in a democracy. He said that his aim is to improve the system and raise issues related to public interest.

Police did not file charge sheet

Abhijeet Deepke alleged that many farmer leaders from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab are being placed under house arrest to prevent them from reaching the protest site. He said that the movement is no longer limited to issues related to education only, but is also becoming a platform for issues related to different educational and student interests. The family of a student also participated in this demonstration regarding the case of death of a student in a school in Jaipur. The Class 6 student had died last year after falling from the fourth floor of the school. The family raised the demand for justice for their daughter through the protest. The student’s parents allege that till now no concrete action has been taken against the school administration or the teacher concerned in this matter. He also claims that the police have not yet filed a charge sheet in the case.
