Russian refinery caught fire in Ukraine’s drone attack, Putin claims to deal with challenges

Moscow/Kiev. Ukraine has adopted an aggressive stance and launched a drone attack on Russia. Russian oil refinery catches fire in Ukrainian drone attack. Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday promised to strengthen security and deal with challenges, hours after the attack.

Kiev views the attacks as justifiable revenge for Russia’s near-daily attacks on Ukrainian civilians and energy infrastructure since the war began in February 2022, The Moscow Times and Tass reported.

“Yes, we see the problems. We are aware of them and we are responding to them. We will certainly ensure the security of the country and its citizens, as well as the integrity of Russia’s borders,” Putin said at the United Russia party conference.

Putin’s speech came hours after a drone attack in Ukraine. The attack killed one person and set off a fire at a refinery in Russia’s southern Krasnodar region. Regional Governor Veniamin Kondratyev gave this information. Kiev claimed responsibility for the attack, and Ukrainian President Zelensky described it as “part of operations that reduce Russia’s war-fighting capability.”

“The Slavyansk oil refinery in the Krasnodar region was attacked. This location is about 300 kilometers from the frontline. We also targeted a refinery in the Yaroslavl region, which is about 700 kilometers from our border,” Zelensky said on Sunday. Ukraine’s attack last week caused a massive fire at a refinery southeast of Moscow. Due to this, the outskirts of the capital were filled with smoke.

Russian-occupied Crimea on Friday declared a “state of emergency” to mitigate the impact of increasing Ukrainian air strikes on the peninsula. The region is suffering fuel shortages and power cuts. This situation has arisen due to Ukrainian attacks. Russia captured Crimea and annexed it in 2014.
