Haryana-Rajasthan Sign MoU On Yamuna Water Agreement: MoU signed on Yamuna water sharing between Haryana and Rajasthan in the presence of Amit Shah
New Delhi. A historic MoU has been signed today regarding sharing of Yamuna water between Haryana and Rajasthan. An important meeting was held at Dutva Bhawan in Delhi under the chairmanship of Union Home and Cooperation Minister in which Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Rajasthan CM Bhajanlal Sharma and Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil was also present. After this agreement, now Rajasthan will be able to get Yamuna water from Hathni Kund Dam during monsoon. Water will be provided to Rajasthan through an underground pipeline from Hathni Kund Barrage.

Now, with the implementation of this agreement, the work on Renuka, Kishau and Lakhwar dam projects is also likely to gain momentum. Under the agreement, water from the Western Yamuna Canal will be sent to Rajasthan between July and October. For this, about 295.5 km long underground pipeline will be laid from Hathni Kund in Haryana to Hansiyawas Reservoir in Rajasthan’s Churu district. This project is likely to have an estimated cost of approximately Rs 34,102 crore. People of Sikar, Churu and Jhunjhunu districts of Rajasthan will benefit from this project. Actually, in 1994, an agreement was reached regarding sharing of water between the states lying on the banks of Yamuna, including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi. But Rajasthan was not getting its full share of water. After the signing of the MoU, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that this is such a format of agreement which can remain in force without any dispute for many decades to come.

I will appeal to former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot to keep his promise. He had said that if Bhajanlal Sharma makes a compromise then I will congratulate him by garlanding him.
