Indian Army termed reports of Chinese infiltration in Arunachal as ‘baseless’

New Delhi: The Indian Army on Monday completely rejected reports of infiltration by China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) troops in Arunachal Pradesh. The Army clearly said that these reports are ‘incorrect’ and have ‘no basis’.

Army’s statement: Media report baseless   

According to media reports, the army said in its statement, "We have seen some media reports alleging recent infiltration and setting up of camps by the Chinese PLA in Arunachal Pradesh. These reports are wrong and have no basis."  

In fact, many local media outlets had claimed that PLA troops have infiltrated into Upper Subansiri district in the last six years. These reports were based on the claims of the ‘Nah’ tribal community. The community said that they were facing difficulty in grazing their cattle due to infiltration.

Nah Welfare Society claims: Areas are under occupation since 2020   

Nah Welfare Society president Keru Chader said Chinese troops have occupied their ‘ancestral lands’ and hunting areas. Chadar claims that many areas are under Chinese occupation since 2020. However, he also added that he has full confidence in the Indian Army. According to Chadar, the army has protected their land for years.

Situation improved after Galwan clash, stability on LAC   

There was tension in India-China relations after the clash in Galwan Valley in 2020. 20 Indian soldiers were martyred in that clash. Many Chinese soldiers were also killed, but Beijing never gave official figures.

However, now the situation is much better. Continuous talks are taking place between the two countries. On Monday, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi said that more than 1,100 talks have been held at the ground level to clear the misunderstandings.

Army Chief said: Peace through strength is our vision   

General Dwivedi said that the situation on the Line of Actual Control i.e. LAC is stable. He reiterated that the Indian Army is committed to dialogue and dialogue with China.

Speaking to news agency ANI he said, "Continuous dialogue at the military level has played an important role in maintaining peace and stability. But our approach is based on ‘peace through strength’." He further said that the Indian Army’s stance on the LAC is strong, reliable and alert. The Army is fully capable of protecting India’s territorial integrity and national interests.
