BAN vs ZIM: Liton Das may be out of the first ODI against Zimbabwe, big update on fitness
Bangladesh team physio Bayazedul Islam Khan gave an update on the fitness of Liton Das. He told that Liton has a grade-1 injury in the calf (left calf muscle) of his left leg. It usually takes two to three weeks to completely recover from this type of injury.
Liton Das will not play in the first ODI
According to the physio, it has been almost 2 weeks since Liton’s injury and his recovery is going at a good pace. The team hopes that he will be fully fit by the end of the third week. However, the chances of him being fully fit by the first ODI on 6th July are very less.
Bayajedul Islam Khan said, ‘The chances of Liton Das playing in the first ODI are almost nil. But if he meets all the standards of the fitness test, then there is full hope of him playing in the second and third ODI.
Liton can play in second and third ODI
Interestingly, despite not being fully fit, Liton Das has been included in the squad for the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe. The selectors are confident that he will strengthen the team by being fit during the series.
Liton was last seen playing in the home ODI series against Australia in mid-June. After this, he was ruled out of the three-match T20 series against Australia due to injury. Bangladesh had to face 3-0 defeat in that series. Due to injury, he could not even take part in the only test match being played against Zimbabwe.
There is also a good news for the team. Captain Mehdi Hasan has returned to the Miraj ODI team. He could not play in the third ODI against Australia due to concussion (head injury). Apart from this, he was also rested from the Test team on the Zimbabwe tour. Now the return of Mirage will provide balance and experience to the ODI team. The Bangladesh team will now hope that Liton Das gets fit soon and strengthens the batting order and the team performs better on the Zimbabwe tour.
