Rayudu names Jaiswal as third opening batter, ignores Sooryavanshi
Former India batter Ambati Rayudu recently was part of a media interaction that was organized by Sony Sports Network. The 40-year-old said he wasn’t in favour of trying Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the ODI format ahead of the 2027 World Cup. The former, in fact, named Yashasvi Jaiswal as the preferred third-choice opener for the massive event.
Speaking to the media, the former Chennai Super Kings star said, “Jaiswal should be ahead of everyone else in the ODI format as the third opener. He should be given enough chances to prepare for the World Cup.” The left-handed batter scored a ton in the final ODI vs Afghanistan but was dropped for the upcoming England tour.
India’s former player also said that Rohit Sharma should be part of the 2027 World Cup despite constant speculation. “Roht should be persisted with, and there shouldn’t be too much judgement. Selectors can rotate him (Rohit Sharma) and focus on his workload management.”
When asked if the 15-year-old batting sensation should be given a chance in the 50-over format, the batter said, “Vaibhav being part of the T20I side is great. That is where he should start. Those players who have done well in the fifty-over format before should be given more chances.”
Former IPL winner backs team decision not to give youngster his debut vs Ireland
One of the biggest questions asked by fans was about the Rajasthan Royals’ opener not being handed his debut against Ireland. Coach Ryan Ten Doeschat, in his chat with the media, said the team wanted to give Sanju Samson a long rope after heroics in the World Cup.
Ambati also echoed the same sentiments and said, “It was the right decision by the team management. It will be a good learning curve for the youngster to be in the same dressing room. This will give the player a good view of what is needed to play for the team and what his role will be.”
“In such cases, the player gets to learn a lot, and when he gets a chance, the player will be well prepared. Sooryavanshi should play his natural game and stick to it. If he gets a chance in England, the ball may not do as much as it did in Ireland.” Further added the ex-India international.
