Will America and Iran face each other again in Doha? Trump’s claim and Tehran’s denial increased the stir

New Delhi: Despite the ongoing tension between America and Iran, efforts to find a solution through dialogue once again seem to be intensifying. After the recent military tension, relations between the two countries may have remained strained, but communication at the diplomatic level has not stopped completely. In this sequence, the next round of technical level talks between the officials of the two countries is being proposed in Doha, the capital of Qatar. However, the official date of this meeting has not been decided yet. Experts believe that if this talk takes place, it can give positive signals towards reducing tension in the region.

US President Donald Trump claimed that on the initiative of Iran, talks are going to be held between representatives of the two countries in Doha on Tuesday. He also shared information in this regard on the social media platform ‘Truth Social’. However, Iran has clearly denied this claim. Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said that currently there is no schedule for any technical meeting this week. According to him, only some important issues are being discussed with Qatar and discussions are going on to implement the promises made by the other side.

Diplomatic efforts increased to reduce tension

According to media reports, many mediator countries are playing an active role in maintaining dialogue between America and Iran. Constant contact is being maintained especially to prevent any possible dispute related to the Strait of Hormuz from escalating. For this reason, both the countries have not directly attacked each other at present. It is believed that both sides are currently exercising restraint to maintain the possibilities of dialogue.

Strait of Hormuz will remain the most important issue

According to sources, if the proposed meeting takes place in Doha, its main topic will be the security and operation of the Strait of Hormuz. Apart from this, issues like regional stability, maritime trade and security system are also likely to be discussed. It is noteworthy that on June 17, a preliminary Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) consisting of 14 points was agreed upon between the two countries. Under this agreement, both sides had decided to stop military attacks, keep the Strait of Hormuz open and continue detailed talks on other important topics including Iran’s nuclear program within the next 60 days.

Different statements regarding frozen assets

Iranian President Masoud Pejeshkian has claimed that out of the $12 billion held in Qatar, $6 billion will soon be released to Iran. America has not accepted this claim as true. American officials say that at present no frozen assets of Iran have been released. On the other hand, Qatar has also not confirmed any such fund transfer. In such a situation, the claims of both the countries on this issue seem to be different.

There will be special emphasis on the safety of sea routes

After the recent attack on an oil tanker in Qatar and the death of a civilian, concerns about security in the region have increased. For this reason, Qatar has suggested that until a clear agreement is reached between America and Iran regarding the Strait of Hormuz, extra vigilance should be exercised on the movement of ships through this strategic sea route. Apart from this, it has also been recommended to impose a temporary ban on tourist boats, fishing boats, jet skis and other commercial water transport services, so that any untoward incident can be avoided.

Both countries started their respective preparations

White House Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt said that US Special Envoys Steve Witcalf and Jared Kushner can go to Doha this week to take part in high-level talks. On the other hand, Iran has informed that the first meeting of the joint committee formed with Oman for the management of the Strait of Hormuz will be held in Muscat on Monday. In this meeting, maritime security and increasing coordination between the two countries will be discussed.

Information will also be given to the US Parliament

According to the White House, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy Steve Witcalf will on Monday brief members of both houses of the US Parliament about the agreement with Iran and the future strategy. Various aspects of the agreement, regional security, diplomatic efforts and possible future plans will be discussed in detail in the meeting. It is believed that if the talks move ahead, its impact will not be limited to America and Iran only, but significant changes can be seen in the direction of peace and stability in the entire West Asia.
