Operation Amistad: Treatment of victims in Indian Army field hospital, Venezuelan government said – Thank you, Bharat
Caracas. Venezuela has appreciated the efforts of the Indian medical team to assist the victims of the massive earthquake that hit the country. More than 1,700 people have died so far in this earthquake.
Under ‘Operation Amistad’, the Indian Army, after reaching Venezuela, has set up a field hospital with a team of experienced doctors at the International La Rinconada Race Course in Caracas.
Indian Army became the messiah for earthquake victims
The Indian Embassy in Venezuela on Monday said India has stepped up its efforts to provide “relief with treatment and humanitarian compassion” to the earthquake-affected people.
“Andrea Corrao Faria, Minister of Manpower and Foreign Affairs, visited our field hospital and praised our efforts to assist earthquake victims,” the embassy said.
Venezuela’s land was damaged by earthquake
The two powerful earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 that struck on Wednesday evening were among the worst to hit Venezuela in more than a century. Their tremors were felt in the entire area. The death toll from these two powerful earthquakes crossed 1,700 by Monday, while thousands of people have been injured and many are still missing.
Indian doctor became lifeline in Venezuela disaster
The Indian Air Force said on Sunday that under Operation Amistad, two C-17 Globemaster aircraft of the Indian Air Force reached Venezuela carrying a total of 66 tons of relief material.
The assistance included an Indian Army field hospital, over 35 tonnes of relief material, medicines, medical equipment and two ‘Bhishma Cubes’.
Bharat Health Initiative for Sahyog Hit and Maitri (BHISHMA) Cubes are mobile hospitals developed with the aim of providing emergency medical services.
The Indian Embassy said that Indian rescue and medical teams, along with Venezuelan authorities, are providing emergency medical services and also conducting search and rescue operations.
