Lucknow: Senior leader of Samajwadi Party and MLA from Kanth Assembly seat of Moradabad, Kamal Akhtar has resigned from the post of Chief Whip of the Legislative Assembly. However, Kamal Akhtar clarified that he has given this resignation on the instructions of the party’s national president Akhilesh Yadav and it is his responsibility to follow his orders.

Kamal Akhtar’s resignation has come at a time when factionalism within the party organization and differences among leaders are being continuously discussed in Moradabad. In fact, for some time now, there were reports of political tussle between Moradabad MP Ruchi Veera and Kamal Akhtar, after which, in view of the growing dispute between the two leaders, a meeting was recently organized in Lucknow in the presence of the party leadership.
Akhilesh Yadav intervened after the controversy
According to sources, both the leaders expressed their views openly in this meeting. Party President Akhilesh Yadav himself had to intervene to resolve the dispute. During this meeting, many senior leaders including Rajya Sabha MP Javed Ali, former MLA Yusuf Ansari, District President Jaiveer Singh Yadav and MP representative Khushnood Ali were also present. After the meeting, it was believed that the differences had been resolved but Kamal Akhtar’s resignation has once again increased the political turmoil.
When was the Chief Whip appointed?
Kamal Akhtar was appointed Chief Whip of Samajwadi Party in July 2024. Let us tell you, this responsibility was given to him at the time when the then Chief Whip Manoj Kumar Pandey had left the post. This post became vacant after Manoj Pandey took a stand different from the party line during the Rajya Sabha elections and later resigned, on which the party leadership handed over the responsibility to Kamal Akhtar.
Now after his resignation, the post of Chief Whip has once again become vacant. At present, no new name has been announced for this post by the party. However, after this decision, all eyes are on who will be appointed to this post by the party.
