Avengers: Doomsday Star Cast in New Sci-Fi Movie Ahead of Secret Wars Production
Shang-Chi actor Simu Liu has been cast in a new sci-fi movie. The actor reprises the role in this year’s Avengers: Doomsday. The new movie will start production right before Avengers: Secret Wars reportedly starts filming.
What sci-fi movie has Avengers: Doomsday’s Simu Liu been cast in?
Simu Liu has been cast in an upcoming sci-fi survival film called Homewrecker (via Deadline). Liu will share the screen with Allison Williams, Michelle Randolph, and French actress Anaïs Parello. The film is being directed by Xavier Gens. According to the report, filming on Homewrecker will begin on July 15 in Paris, France.
The synopsis for Homewrecker’s original screenplay reads, “During a heart-breaking domestic revelation, three star-crossed Americans are suddenly forced to work together to survive a terrifying unexplained global event that threatens to destroy life as they know it.”
As for what kind of movie Homewrecker will be, its producers have reportedly compared it to 10 Cloverfield Lane. Beyond that and the cryptic synopsis, other details are being kept under wraps. Given that Avengers: Secret Wars will enter production in August, it appears that Liu will be juggling two major roles simultaneously. It’s unknown how big a role Liu will play in Secret Wars.
Homewrecker is based on a screenplay by Elisa Bell and Travis Gordon. It will be produced by Denise Di Novi, Margaret French Isaac, Oliver Scherick, John Zois, and Warren Goz. Williams, Randolph, Michael Rothstein, Zach Book, and Samuel Hall will serve as executive producers.
Liu made his MCU debut in 2021’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Since then, the actor has appeared in Barbie, The Copenhagen Test, Last Breath, and more. The actor’s breakout role was in Kim’s Convenience, where he played the lead. He has also maintained that he will reprise his Marvel role in a Shang-Chi sequel.
Liu will return as Shang-Chi in Avengers: Doomsday, which releases in theaters on December 18, 2026.
