Karnataka: Threat to bomb ISRO headquarters in Bengaluru, nothing found in search
Bengaluru, July 2. There was panic on Thursday at the headquarters of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) in Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka, when it received a bomb threat. An alert was issued as soon as the information was received. The police and bomb squad headquarters conducted investigation on the spot.
ISRO Chairman’s office received a threatening email
According to the police, a threatening email had been received by the ISRO Chairman’s office. After this the ISRO campus was evacuated. Several teams investigated the suspicious items. However, no suspicious object was found during investigation and the threat was later proved to be fake.
A senior police officer said that no suspicious object was found during the search operation. After investigation the threat was declared fake. Police said that Sanjay Nagar police station is investigating the identity of the email sender and other aspects related to it. Investigation of the matter is ongoing.
Such threats are being taken very seriously at a sensitive place like ISRO Headquarters. Bengaluru Police Commissioner said that the investigation is being conducted in collaboration with security agencies. The cyber cell is also trying to find out the IP address of the email, the identity of the person sending it and the purpose.
It is noteworthy that due to scientific programs this institute is always considered very sensitive from security point of view. ISRO is also monitored by foreign intelligence agencies due to Chandrayaan, Gaganyaan and other important missions.
North Bengaluru DCP Babasab Nemagowda said, ‘A bomb threat call was received at the ISRO headquarters in Sanjay Nagar police station limits in the afternoon. Our officials reached ISRO and investigated thoroughly, nothing was found. ISRO officials are filing a complaint with us and we will take up the matter for further investigation.
