Shardul Thakur on Gill-Gambhir planning: Indian team’s experienced all-rounder Shardul Thakur has given a big statement about his role in Team India. Shardul, who has been out of the national team for almost a year, believes that the team management did not use him properly during the England tour. He said that he was given very few overs to bowl and the time at which the ball was given was also not favorable for him.
However, despite all this, Shardul Thakur has not given up hope of returning to Team India. He says that he is still dreaming of playing for the country and if he gets a chance again, he will try his best to perform. After his statement, questions have also been raised on the strategy of captain Shubman Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir during the last England tour.
Shardul Thakur’s pain over England tour spilled out
Shardul Thakur got a chance to play only two Test matches on the England tour last year. In these matches, being a part of the all-rounder team, he bowled only 27 overs. Sharing his experience, Shardul said that he feels that the team management did not use him properly. According to him, he was not made to bowl as per requirement and was given the ball at the wrong time. He called it a strategic and calculation mistake of the team.
Questions raised on the strategy of Gill and Gambhir
During the England tour, the command of the Indian team was in the hands of Shubman Gill, while Gautam Gambhir was playing the role of head coach. In such a situation, Shardul Thakur’s statement is being seen as a question on the decisions of the team management. Even though Shardul did not take anyone’s name directly, his statement clearly indicated that he was not satisfied with his role and felt that had he been used properly, he could have proved more effective for the team.
Even admitted his mistake in batting
Shardul Thakur also introspected about batting. He admitted that he had lost his wicket by playing bad shots in the Leeds Test. However, he praised his batting in the Manchester Test and said that he showed composure in difficult situations. He scored important runs in cloudy weather, swinging ball and challenging pitch, which helped India reach a strong score in the first innings and draw the match.
Hope of comeback in Team India remains intact
Shardul Thakur played his last international match about 12 months ago in the Test series against England. Since then he has been out of Team India, but he clearly said that the hope of his comeback is still alive. Shardul Thakur said that he wants to play for India again 100 percent. According to him, as long as hope remains intact, the possibility of a comeback also remains. The experienced all-rounder believes that if he gets a chance again, he can win back the trust of the team management with his performance.
