Special invitation to India for Khamenei’s funeral, invitation to many leaders including Kharge, Khurshid and Kheda

New Delhi. Many prominent leaders from India have been invited to the funeral of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. According to sources, the Iranian government has also sent invitations to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid and the party’s media department head Pawan Khera to attend the funeral ceremony.

It is being told that religious and state programs related to the funeral of Ayatollah Khamenei will start from July 4. Representatives and top leaders of many countries of the world are likely to participate in these events lasting several days.

  • According to sources, Iran had also formally invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, the Government of India, on its part, has decided to send Bihar Governor Lieutenant General (Retd) Syed Ata Hasnain and Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita to the ceremony as the official delegation.

Diplomatic experts believe that the Indian representation at the funeral is an indication of the strong and historical relations between the two countries. Even during the recent tension and conflict in West Asia, India had made it clear that it is in favor of maintaining its traditional friendly relations with Iran.

It is noteworthy that on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, Khamenei’s successor Mojtaba Khamenei had thanked for the good wishes sent by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He had said in his message that the historical relations between India and Iran based on mutual respect, trust and common interests will become stronger and broader in the future with the efforts of both the governments.
