Delhi Next will give a new dimension to governance, CM Rekha said – ideas of youth will change the system.
Delhi Government has launched ‘Delhi Next – Code, Create and Change’ program with the aim of finding technology-based solutions to the urban and civic problems of the capital. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presided over this ambitious initiative at the Delhi Secretariat. The government claims that this is the country’s largest civic-tech innovation program. It aims to provide a common platform to youth, startups, researchers, educational institutions and innovators to develop technology-based solutions to the real civic and urban challenges of Delhi.
Addressing the program, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that in changing times, governance cannot be limited to just making policies. He said that solving problems through technology, innovation and public participation is the new direction of good governance. The Chief Minister said that ‘Delhi Next’ is not just a hackathon, but it will act as a strong bridge between governance and innovation. Through this initiative, efforts will be made to connect the new ideas and technical solutions of the youth directly with the government system, so that practical and effective solutions to the problems of the capital can be developed.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the youth of the country have immense talent and if they get the right platform, proper guidance and opportunities, they can bring about a big change in the administrative system. During the program organized at Delhi Secretariat, the Chief Minister said that the Delhi Government does not consider the youth as mere spectators but as equal participants in good governance. He said that the youth of the country are the biggest force in achieving the goal of a developed India and their innovations will give new direction to the future governance system.
The Chief Minister said that ‘Delhi Next’ is a different initiative from the traditional hackathon. Usually hackathons end with prize distribution, but in this event the selected technical solutions will not only be showcased but also implemented as pilot projects in collaboration with concerned government departments. He said that the models which yield successful results will be integrated into the functioning of the government. This will enable the innovations of the youth to become a direct part of government schemes and citizen services, thereby developing effective solutions to the urban and civic problems of the capital.
Technology based solutions to Delhi’s civic challenges
According to the Delhi government, this innovation program focused on developing technology-based solutions to real civic problems of the capital. Under the program, participants created innovation-based technological solutions for various sectors related to urban infrastructure, waterlogging, traffic management, smart parking, air pollution, waste management, electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem, citizen grievance redressal, digital governance and public services. These solutions aim to make city management smarter, effective and convenient for citizens.
Winning teams will get guidance from experts
The top 60 teams selected under the ‘Delhi Next’ program will be provided special support and guidance to pursue their innovations. Each team will be linked to the relevant government department, where they will receive mentorship from subject experts. Also, their developed solutions will be pilot tested. The projects which prove successful in testing, a clear and phased roadmap will be prepared to implement them in the government system, so that the benefits of innovations can reach the citizens directly.
Delhi’s step towards creating ‘Civic-Tech Capital’
The Chief Minister said that the Delhi government aims to establish the capital as the ‘Civic-Tech Capital’ of the country. According to him, future governments will not be limited to traditional governance alone, but will ensure more effective, transparent and accountable governance through data, artificial intelligence (AI), digital innovation and citizen engagement. He said that ‘Delhi Next’ is an important and visionary initiative of the government towards realizing this vision, which aims to make urban governance smarter and citizen-centric through technology-based solutions.
