BYD eMax 7 Comfort Trim Electric MPV Launched: Bigger Battery At A Lower Price
BYD has expanded the eMax 7 electric MPV range with a new Comfort trim positioned between the existing Premium and Superior versions. The Comfort is priced at Rs 27.90 lakh for the six-seat version and Rs 28.30 lakh for the seven-seater, ex-showroom.
Its main attraction is the larger 71.8kWh battery, previously available only with the Superior. However, the Comfort uses the Premium trim’s 161bhp electric motor rather than the Superior’s more powerful 201bhp unit. All three versions produce 310Nm.
BYD claims an MIDC range of 485km for the Comfort. That is 65km more than the 55.4kWh Premium’s 420km figure, but 45km – not 65km – less than the 530km claimed by the Superior with the same 71.8kWh battery.
BYD has not publicly explained the complete reason for the difference. Battery capacity alone does not determine certified range, and the versions differ in motor output, calibration and equipment. It would therefore be speculative to attribute the gap solely to software tuning or minor hardware changes.

For the six-seat versions, the Comfort costs Rs 1 lakh more than the Rs 26.90 lakh Premium and Rs 1.40 lakh less than the Rs 29.30 lakh Superior.
The seven-seat Comfort costs Rs 28.30 lakh – Rs 80,000 more than the Rs 27.50 lakh Premium and Rs 1.60 lakh less than the Rs 29.90 lakh Superior. The complete eMax 7 range therefore continues to span Rs 26.90 lakh to Rs 29.90 lakh.
The Comfort broadly carries over the Premium’s equipment rather than offering the Superior’s full feature list. It includes LED lighting, synthetic-leather upholstery, a 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, powered and folding mirrors, a 360-degree camera and six airbags.
Compared with the Superior, it misses features including Level 2 ADAS, a panoramic glass roof, ventilated front seats, automatic headlamps and a powered tailgate. It also supports up to 115kW DC fast charging and 7kW AC charging.

The Comfort is aimed at buyers who want the larger battery without paying for the Superior’s stronger motor and additional equipment. Its 485km claimed range sits much closer to the Superior’s 530km than to the Premium’s 420km, while its price remains closer to the entry version.
It would be inaccurate, however, to describe the Premium as underpowered. The Premium and Comfort use the same 161bhp motor; the principal advantage of the Comfort is its larger battery and additional 65km of claimed range. Buyers wanting stronger performance, ADAS and the more comprehensive feature package will still need the Superior.
BYD introduced the Comfort alongside a July 1 price revision of Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh on selected Atto 3, Seal and Sealion 7 variants. Contrary to the earlier version of this story, the currently listed eMax 7 prices remain unchanged, and the new Comfort’s price should not be presented as the result of the wider increase.
The revised range now offers six combinations across three trims and two seating layouts. Premium remains the lower-cost option, Comfort prioritises battery capacity and range, and Superior adds more power and equipment.
